Rumus : subjek + verb(ing)

1. I am reading a book now.
2. He is digging a hole.
3. They are playing football.
4. Jack and Sara are studying English.
5. The kids are watching TV.
6. Are you studying German?
7. I am not studying German.
8. Is he calling his mother?
9. He is not calling his mother.
10. Are they cleaning their rooms?
Present continuous tense juga digunakan untuk membicarakan suatu kegiatan yang sedang dikerjakan tetapi kegiatan yang selesai dalam jangka waktu lama. Seperti baca novel, membangun rumah, mengerjakan skripsi, menghafal untuk test dan lain-lain.
Contoh:
1. Anda sedang makan siang dengan teman dan anda memberitahu teman, “I am reading a novel, it’s a good one“. Pada saat anda memberitahu teman anda, anda tidak sedang membaca novel tersebut tetapi anda sedang dalam proses membaca sebuah novel dan belum selesai membacanya.
2. I am brushing up on math because the test will be held next week. (Sedang dalam proses menghafalkan).
3. Joe is preparing for his trip tp America next month. ( sedang dalam proses persiapan).
Yang ketiga, present continuous digunakan untuk membicarakan suatu kegiatan yang akan dilakukan (future), kegiatan yang sudah fix dan pasti dilakukan.
Contoh:
1. My mother is going to London tomorrow morning. (Ibu sudah pasti pergi)
2. I am getting married next week. (Sudah pasti menikah)
3. My friend is moving to Canada next month. (Teman sudah pasti pindah ke Canada)
Berbeda dengan future yang menggunakan “Will”, apabila kita merencanakan sesuatu yang belum pasti dilakukan maka kita menggunakan “Will”.
